Job Description

Job Objective:
The Network Engineer's role is to ensure the stability and integrity of enterprise voice, data, video, and wireless network services. This is achieved by designing and maintaining local and wide area networks across the organization. In addition, the Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all internetwork communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Assists in the performance of day-to-day networking tasks to ensure network reliability, availability, and serviceability within minimal interruption.
  • Provides complex technical support, responds to complex work orders, and tickets from users and analyzes and solves complex internetworking problems.
  • Assists in the configuration of firewall security settings to access permissions groups for individuals and sets up provisions for incoming data.
  • Assists and participates in network technology upgrade or expansion projects, including installation of hardware, software, and integration testing, as well as coordinating these activities without disturbing the function of other systems.
  • Develops and produces complex documentation for installation, network topology, and troubleshooting of communications hardware or software.
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hotfixes, and security configurations
  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
  • Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
  • Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

Other Job Responsibilities:
  • Traveling to Prudhoe and Kenai approximately twice a quarter or as needed is required.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years minimum network engineering experience preferably in oil & gas.
  • Proficient working knowledge and understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
  • Experience with and understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model
  • Exceptional ability in diagnosing and solving network related problems while maintaining patience, professionalism, and courtesy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and management
  • Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate complex computer/information system's information into an organized and presentable manner.
  • Excellent administrative, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in the use and application of the following software:
Required: Cisco IOS, 360suite, Microsoft Visio
Preferred: Network Monitoring Tools

Education Requirements:
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year university or college with a degree in information technology, management information systems, computer science, or any equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating sufficient knowledge, ability and skill to handle the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Preferred:
  • CCNP or higher (CCIE highly valued)
